Skokloster Castle

Skokloster Castle was built for the noble Swedish military commander during the Age of Greatness – Carl Gustaf Wrangel – between 1654-1676. This world class baroque castle contains amazing collections of items and interiors from the 17th and 18th Centuries.
It is situated on a peninsula in Lake Mälaren 70 km north of Stockholm city. Well worth a visit if you have any historical interests at all.

Don’t miss among other things, to see the painting ”Vertumnus” (The Roman god of the seasons, growth, plants and fruits) that was painted by the Italian artist Giuseppe Acrimboldo anno 1591. It is epicting the holy German-Roman Emperor Rudolf II with different fruits. It was taken as a war booty by the Swedes when they plundered Prague in 1648.
